A. Presentation:

1. Teacher reads “Lisa’s story” as students listen and have them fill in the blanks and answer the questions that follow.

My grandparents got married when they were young. They have lived together for more than 42 years now. When my grandma was 21 she had a son, my uncle. My uncle is married too. He has been married to my aunt for 10 years.

2. Answer the questions in full sentences:

Examples: How long have your parents been married? –

B. Analysis and discussion

1. Discuss on how to form Present Perfect Tense:

Present Perfect Tense is formed by using the past participle form of the verb.

*past participle = 3rd form of the verb (know – knew – known)

      Positive(I, you, we, they) + have + past participle (he, she, it) + has + past participle        Example: I have lived in Tokyo for seven years.
      Negative (I, you, we, they) + have not/haven’t + past participle (he, she, it) + has not/ hasn’t + past participle       Example: I have not lived in Tokyo for seven years.
      QuestionsHave + (I, you, we, they) + past participle? Has + (he, she, it) + past participle?      Example: Have you lived in Japan?

2. When to use Present Perfect Tense:

We use Present Perfect Tense to talk about things that happened in the past, but we can still see the result now.
Example: My grandparents have lived together for 42 years. *They still live together now.

C. Practice

 Make the verb in brackets Present Perfect Tense.

  3. My aunt (to be) a teacher for 12 years now.
