Speech Beauty Contest          

In this part of tutorial for beginners, learners will enhance listening skills as they perform the “Listening Activity”. How to understand the speech through listening?. How to answer questions from the speech listened to?. How effective listening skills to understand the speech?.

This lesson will help students to get used to hearing what they listened to.

I. Objectives: At the end of the lesson the students would be able to:

            – understand when they listened to a speech

            – Answer questions from the speech listened to

            – fill the blanks with appropriate information while listening

II. Subject Matter: Listening Activity: “Speech Beauty Contest”

Materials: Pictures, whiteboard, copy of speech

III. Procedure:

            1. Pre-listening Activity

The teacher shows the picture of beautiful ladies and tries to make the students talk about the picture.

T: Do you think they are beautiful?

S:

T: Can you guess the name of the first competitor?

S:

T: Can you guess the height of the second competitor?

S:

T: What nationality does the third girl belong to? What is your opinion?

2. During Listening Activities

1. The teacher reads the “Speech: Beauty Contest” and the students listen.

2. While the students listen the teacher ask them to take down some notes.

3. Post Listening Activities:

1. Discussion

The teacher writes on the board some questions and student’s answer the question to test whether they understood what they have listened to.

1. Whose name is the best? Why do you think so?

2. Who is the tallest one of all?

3. Who is the oldest one of all?

4. What nationality does the first one belong to?

5. What nationality does the second one belong to?

6.What nationality does the third one belong to?

7. Who can speak two languages?

IV. Evaluation

Teacher reads the information about the people whose names are listed below and have the

students complete the missing information.
