Classroom Rules English Lesson

In this set of tutorial for beginners, learners will be informed about “Classroom Rules”. What are  “Classroom Rules” for both teachers and students. How to demonstrate the language needed to formulate classroom rules?. Why is it important to obey the classroom rules?.

The purpose of this lesson is to teach students the language necessary for formulating rules in the classroom for both teachers and students.

1. Objective: At the end of the lesson the students would be able to;

            -formulate classroom rules for both teachers and students

            – demonstrate the language needed to formulate classroom rules

            -obey the classroom rules

II. Subject Matter: Classroom Rules

            Materials: Sheets of:

  1. Rules for the classroom
  2. Fair rules at work
  3. Three kinds of Rules

III. Procedure/ Activities

            A. Warm-up/ Pre -Activity

            1. The teacher asks the students what are some rules in their house.

            2. The teacher writes them on the board and point out any interesting phrases that the students give.

            3. Next, clear the board and divide the students into 3 teams/ groups.

            B. Activity Proper:

            1. The teacher writes on the board the three rules in general.

            1.1 Things you have to do.

            1.2 Things you can not do.

            1.3 Things you can do if you want.

            2. Explain in class each rule.

3. Hand out the students the “Three Kinds of Rule” summary sheet as the discussion goes on.

4. Ask the students to give an example of each kind. Three examples for driving might be:

You have to wear a seatbelt.

            You must not drink and drive.

            You can listen to the radio while you drive.

5. Now underneath the examples the students made, write down the list of possible patterns that the students can use under each category of rule.

6. Group Activity

1. Students divide into groups and make up rules for the class.

2. Teacher goes over to each group and offers advice and perhaps suggests a phrase or two.

3. Students should try many expressions as possible, and they can still use the lists that you wrote on the board.

4. After the students have created a list. Ask a student representative from each group to rewrite the lists for posting on the wall.

5. Another student is chosen to be a group leader and present their rules to the class.

6. Other students can ask question about the rules or, argue about some rules.

IV. Evaluation:

Students are given the second sheet with “Fair Rules” in society. They decide whether they are fair or unfair and give their reasons why or how the rules could be modified to make them fair.

V. Assignment

            Have the students write a summary of all the rules they formulate in the classroom             and let them report in class the next day.

VI. Remediation/ Enrichment For slow learners you can review them the language needed to formulate classroom rules.

Fair Rules at Work
