This lesson will help students draw as much information as they can from the characters in a story.
I. Objectives: At the end of the lesson the students would be able to;
1. Identify specific character traits when reading a story
2. List character traits on a paper T-shirts based on the story read
3. Discuss the traits of a certain character
II. Subject Matter: Character Shirts
Materials: 1.Large pieces of paper
2. Markers
3. Activity sheet with T-shirt outlines on it-one for each
main character in the story
III. Procedure
1. Cut large shirts out of paper and hang them on the wall. Put the name of each character on a shirt.
2. Pass out the activity sheet with the T-shirt outlines on them.
3. Have the students label the T-shirts with the names of the main characters.
4. As the students read the story have them list character traits on the T-shirt.
5. Discussion
5.1The teacher write on the big T-shirts all the traits the students are able to name.
5.2 If there appear to be conflicting traits, have the students back up their choices with selections from the text.
6. Pair Work
Have the students choose their partner. One student will think of a story and retell his/her partner the story. The other student must try to guess the character and try to discuss the traits of the characters in the story in front of the class with the help of a teacher to encourage students’ participation.
IV. Evaluation/Assessment
Have the students create a paper T-shirt that lists the personality traits that make up who they are and have them share the T-shirts with the class.

V. Assignment
Have the students read a selection/story by their choice and let them write down the character traits of each character in the story and share them in class the next day.
