Sequencing Words Examples

In this phase of tutorial for beginners, learners are expected to develop “Sequencing words” skills. What is  “Sequencing words” ? How to apply “Sequencing words” in summarizing a story.

Overview

In this lesson the students will learn the concepts of sequence or story order.

I. Objectives: At the end of the lesson the students would be able to;

            1. Sequence any set of events in the correct order

            2. Learn the meaning of new vocabulary words

            3. Summarize the story

II. Subject Matter: Sequencing

            Story: The Mouse the Frog and the Hawk

            Materials: 1. Copy of the story

                              2. Practice exercises worksheets

III. Learning Experiences

A. Pre- Activity/ Warm up

Have the class read then in groups then by selected students.

B. Lesson Proper

1. Unlocking of difficulty

2. Presentation

3. Before reading; write on the board one motive question for students to read.

            Who are the characters in the story?

            What is the mischief of the frog?

            Where did the mouse and the frog accustomed to find their food?

            Why did the mouse feel unhappy?

What did the hawk do with the mouse and the frog?

6. Discussion

1. Introduce the idea of “Sequencing.” Ask the students if they know what it is or why it is important.

2. Discuss that “sequencing” is the order of events in a story or in our lives. Understanding the sequence helps us to comprehend the story or situation.

8. Fixation of Skills

Fill in the blanks to put the group of sentences in order. The first step is numbered for you.

IV. Evaluation/ Assessment

Fill in the blanks to put the group of sentences in order. Write 1 in the blank for the first sentence, 2 for the second sentence, and so on.

____She’d leave early for work, so I went to my grandmother’s until school began.

V. Assignment

Direction: Read the story and put the sentences in the correct order.

Maria Gomez

Maria Gomez was born in Peru. She grew up in a small village. She began school when she was six years old. She went to elementary school, but she didn’t go to high school. Her family was very poor, and she worked on an assembly line in a shoe factory.

When Maria was seventeen years old, sher family moved to the United States. First, they lived in Los Angeles, and then they moved to San Francisco.  When Maria arrived in the United States, she wasn’t very happy. She missed her friends back in Peru, and she didn’t speak English one word of English. She began to study English at night, and she worked in a factory during the day.

Maria studied very hard. She learned English and she got a good job as a secretary. Maria still studies at night, but now she studies advertising at a business school. She wants to work for an advertising company some day and write commercials.

Maria still misses her friends back home, but she communicates with them very often over the Internet. She’s very happy now, and she’s looking forward to an exciting future.

Sequencing

1. Orville Wright wanted to know hot to fly. So did his brother Wilbur. They studied books about flight. They watched how a kite flew. They learned about motors.
Then they built a glider. A glider is a plane with no motor. They practiced flying their glider.

Next, they built a plane with an engine. Orville flew the plane first. His flight lasted 12 seconds. Wilbur flew it next. His flight lasted almost one minute.
Orville and Wilbur were pioneers of flying.

Put these sentences in order:

2. Meg’s family packed all of their things. They put everything in their wagon.
