The purpose of this lesson is to educate students to remember what they read, by looking for ideas that are about the same thing and putting them in the same group to show how the ideas are alike.

1. Motivation
Say: Do you have any idea to remember what you have read or studied yesterday, etc..?
2. Presentation through a paragraph
3. Oral reading of the paragraph by the students
Anita is really good at some sports, but she is learning some others. She’s a great runner and is on the track team at school. She also plays tennis and golf with her family. She doesn’t play basketball or soccer very well, though. She’s also learning how to swim.
4. Comprehension Check:
Who is Anita?
What does she do?
What kind of sports she played with her family?
What kind of sport she doesn’t play very well?
What sports did Anita is learning?
5. Discussion
1. Say: I can not remember all the ideas in the paragraph, can you?
I’m going to classify them, or put them in groups, in order to remember them.
Then display this T-Chart:
2. After modeling the T-chart to the students how to classify ideas.
Explain them that to classify ideas you have to:
a. look for ideas that are about the same thing
b. put the ideas in the same group
c. give the group a name to show how the ideas are alike.

VII. Reinforcement
For higher functional students you can assign them to read a paragraph and tell them to locate the words that relate to one idea and words that relate to another. Have students classify the words on a T- Chart.
